MyAd TV Digital Signage
Digital Signage - Cost of Ownership
A number of institutes such as Point of Purchase Advertising International (POPAI) have conducted studies on consumer behavior. Their conclusion is that 70%-75% of all purchase decisions are made by the shopper as he or she is actually walking around shopping. Another study conducted by Arbitron found that shoppers are extremely receptive to retail ads with nearly 30% of retail ads viewers making unplanned purchase. Looking at these impressive results, both product manufacturers and store owners should consider spending more in point of purchase advertising than on traditional media such as radios and newspapers.
In-store advertising is not something new, almost all stores use some form of poster ads. But what is new is that these poster ads can now be displayed on TV screens instead. There are a number of advantages when stores switch from paper posters to digital signage TV screens. One advantage is the ability to change messages in real time and enable just-in-time marketing. Another is the unlimited content that can be posted at every display location, which is particularly valuable when space is at a premium. These digital signage screens can be controlled over the Internet so that content management can be done remotely.
With the falling prices on larger screen monitors and the low subscription rate on MyAdTV digital signage software services, you can’t afford not to use MyAdTV digital signage. Even with a 42” plasma screen, the cost of the entire hardware setup may well be under $2000.
MyAdTV’s digital signage software runs on any PC and does not require any software installation, so maintenance cost is kept to a minimal. The software user interface is specifically designed for non-technical users. Store managers can manage the content from a remote computer in the back office or at any other location.
Admittedly, not all store owners or managers wish to spend time in designing advertising content. With MyAdTV’s flexible account architecture, a store owner can subscribe to an additional user account so that a content designer can upload the materials to designated display locations while the owner retains full control of the content.

Get local customers to come visit your store using digital signage
Using digital signage is the most effective and inexpensive way to get local or on-site customers into your store. You can place a monitor by the show window and you can exchange ads with your neighboring stores who are also using digital signage.
Customers are most interested in specialties and promotional items. If you can raise their interest, they will come in to find out more about what you are offering. If you store is located in an area that has after hour foot traffic, you should keep the digital signage running all night. You never know when a potential customer may pass by your store.
Exchanging ads with your neighboring stores is a great way to promote each other’s businesses. For example, if you are located in a strip mall along with 15 other stores, customers who shop in one store may discover your special promo from the ad you post on your neighbor’s digital signage screen. Since these customers are on location and it doesn’t take much to walk over to your store, you can easily and quickly acquire their patronage. Most of us like to shop or seek services close to where we work or live, usually within a 2 to 3 miles radius. So it is very beneficial to exchange ads with stores that are within that range.
MyAdTV offers a web-based software application that allows you to run your ad content right on your own PC. No software installation is required, just Microsoft Internet Explorer browser; a regular PC connected to the Internet is used for content creation and playback; content is controlled and updated remotely with no interruption to the display. The software also has an ad trading system called MyAdXchange for business owners to swap ad space with their neighbors. You can go to www.myadtv.com to sign up for a FREE ‘Starter Package’ and gain access to the service. You can self-start in less than 30 minutes by following the step by step user guide provided.
There are some cabling and equipment placement choices if you plan to place a monitor by the show window. One choice is to use a laptop with a wireless adapter for content playback. The wireless adapter provides the connection to the Internet instead of having to install Ethernet cable. A laptop is small enough to locate virtually anywhere in your store. These days, you can get a wireless laptop for as little as $650. Another choice is one of the compact desktops that come with a micro ATX chassis. Their typical dimension is 3.7”(W) x12.4”(H)x 14.4”(D) or 94mm(W)x315mm(H)x366mm(D). Similarly, if you are inside a mall, it is also a good idea to place a monitor outside the entrance. You can, for a price, find some monitors that have built-in PCs inside the monitor casing. Or you could find monitor floor stands that can accommodate both the monitor and laptop.

Build your own turnkey digital signage systems using MyAdTV
Here is an overview on how to build your own turnkey digital signage systems using MyAdTV's free 'Starter Package'. The Starter Package includes two software modules – (i) content creation and management and (ii) content display. Both are web-based applications and run directly on an Internet Explorer browser. No software installation is required. Ad content is stored on our central server and can be retrieved from any computer and at any number of locations.
System requirements:
- Any PC based computer with Internet connection
- Pentium III or above recommended (or its equivalent)
- 512M or more memory recommended
- Microsoft Internet Explorer browser 6.0 or above
- A high-end graphics card if you are running flash and movie files with resolution larger than 640x480
How to start:
- Go to http://www.myadtv.com and sign up for a starter account by clicking on the Free Account Signup button
- Login to your user account by going to the home page and click on the MyAdTV Login button
- Create your ad content by following the steps provided in the quick start user guide
- Run the final content on the same computer or on another computer connected to the Internet using Turnkey, Desktop or PlayNow display mode (refer to the quick start user guide)
You can update your ad content or insert new materials remotely without interruption to the playback. MyAdTV supports most commonly used media formats including jpg, flash, wmv, avi and mpeg. MyAdTV also accepts user type-in text. User type-in text allows you to modify your ad messages easily. You can run the final content on one computer and modify your ad content on another computer. You can change the text, color, size and type of your ad messages; you can replace images to your existing ads; you can change the ad start date and time and you can insert new ads. Once you've saved the changes , the changes will appear in the very next display cycle.
You can convert your computer into a turnkey system using MyAdTV's One Click Turnkey mode. That is, when you first power on your computer, the content will start to play automatically without any user input. You can set up the One Click Turnkey mode on any Inernet connected PC and at any number of locations. The One Click Turnkey mode is easily demonstrated by going to our demo site.
You can create a digital signage network of any size. MyAdTV’s expandable and reconfigurable account architecture allows you to increase the usage by subscribing to additional accounts. When you create new accounts, you will automatically become their admin and be able to access these accounts from your own account. With the additonal player accounts, you can display different content at different locations. With the additional user accounts, you can assign your staff to manage various ad campaigns or your web designers to create content while you retain the overall control and can override any actions taken within the accounts. Click here for more details.
When placing digital signage in your store, there is the consideration of the type of monitors you want to use. We recommend LCD monitors with the size of 23” or larger. The price of larger LCD monitors is dropping by the month. They are more light-weight when compared to Plasma screens and they don’t have the burn-in problem that most Plasma screens do. As for the computer, you can use a laptop or a desktop with smaller foot print. You may need an extended VGA cable to connect your monitor to your PC in order to give you better placement of the PC. Alternatively, you can purchase a LCD monitor with a built-in PC for a higher price. Wireless connections work well with this application and wireless saves the trouble of having to install Ethernet cable.
